Jackson State is home to more than 7,500 students. Our student body reflects a broad spectrum of young men and women from diverse academic, social, ethnic, economic and geographic backgrounds. The University is comprised of many international and nontraditional students, along with those whose families have a legacy of alumni. JSU serves two types of students: those who are well-prepared – academically and emotionally – to embrace the University life, and those who are bright and hardworking but under-prepared by the standard K through 12 education system. The foundation of JSU’s learning system is based on our historic ability to accommodate the needs of both, providing the tools that all students need to be successful in life. Student Life Student life is a major factor in University life. JSU offers a variety of programs and services designed to smooth the transition to school, as well as support student success in and outside the classroom. In addition to its academic programs, Jackson State offers many unique attractions, including its renowned Sonic Boom of the South marching band, outstanding intercollegiate athletic teams, and more than 100 student clubs and organizations. |
